The last few years have seen a huge surge of advancements in the ability to control, manipulate, and present cinema (film, video) in a live setting that responds to the immediate environment and allows the director the ability to perform her narrative in a new and creative way each time.

     Imagine a film that is released in linear format, but at the director ' s discretion can be presented from a database – calling each clip used in the piece as needed, perhaps altering the nature of conflict or resolution found in the narrative. Imagine a long keyboard with the clips on the white keys, the effects (wipes, transitions) on the black keys, and amount of effects on the knobs.

     This performance structure is utilized around the world in conjunction with live music, and the music analogy is an accurate description . Similar to how a DJ mixes music from multiple sources into a live set, a 'VJ' (Visual or Video Jockey) mixes visual elements into a unique, one of a kind piece. LUX has performed hundreds of live cinema pieces for artists such as the Allman Brothers, DJ Sasha, and Karl Denson professionally for the past several years and is extremely familiar with this territory. Our vision is to see this art form and its ability to present a fluid narrative injected into the public dialogue.
